Description
A beginner Gymnastics student is one with limited or no gymnastics experience or proficiency. The Beginners work on the floor, the low bar of the uneven bars as well as the low and medium level balance beams. Skills learned include handstands, various beginning skills on beam (scale, step 1/2 turn, and beginning jumps) and low bar skills (pullover, cast, back hip circle, Sole circle and the connections to combine those skills.)
After an evaluation of a students ability to advance on bars or beam, a decision is made to place them in Level I (beam predominance) or Level II (bar predominance). Level I and II have the same progressions for tumbling (front handsprings, back handsprings, flysprings, front sommi, back sommi).
This program teaches the skills that will eventually lead to success on the high school gymnastics team. Additionally, if a gymnast does not have an aptitude or desire for a particular event, then she does not have to continue with that event.
