Description

Sculpture parks are appearing everywhere, from the Aldrich Museum and Storm King to Pepsi Gardens, Hogpen Hill Farms, and the High Line. Artists such as Frank Stella, Calder, Louise Bourgeois, Yayoi Kusama, and street artists Alec Monopoly and Kenny Scharf transform their styles into striking sculptures.

Lessons introduce students to both art and STEM concepts, including sculpting film or fantasy creatures, creating whimsical kinetic sculptures, stacking totems, and designing futuristic drones with wired frames. Students are inspired by the methods and creations of sculptors, street artists, engineers, architects, technology innovators, and film set and character designers.

Students experiment with clay, glazes, sculptural wires, glass marbles, beads, buttons, metallic and neon paints, canvases, wood, mesh, nails, upcycled materials, and more. Every project reflects the student’s own design, choice of materials, and unique creative vision.

No class Tuesday, 2/17.
