This program is designed for students in grades 1-2 who have a passion for coding their own games and stories, and are ready to take their coding to the next level. Students should already be familiar with “Scratchjr”, a K-2 coding app that our past coding sessions have introduced.
Students will graduate beyond the iPad app “Scratchjr” to learn how to program even more interactive games and animations through the web-based version called “Scratch”. By dropping the “jr”, students will move beyond coding with picture-based drag and drop code blocks to drag and drop code blocks with words written on them. Students will learn to code their own games, videos, and musical instruments in Scratch, and even learn how to create their own video game controller out of everyday objects with a “Makey Makey” device.
Students who have used Scratch before will learn about the new updates that just arrived with the much anticipated release of Scratch version 3.0. In order to save their work, students will need to create a free Scratch account on their first day of class.
