Pre-K Clay MD21 CourseCatalog/images/new.gif

Let's play with clay and have fun! Students will create polka-dotted pigs and other animals that live at Ambler farm, glittery sea stars and shells at the beach, colorful flowers growing in your gardens, kids playing at recess and fun food such as watermelon slices and birthday cakes. Learn how to make coils, pinch pots, sculptures and tiles.

Students use many colors to "glaze*" or paint their projects. They'll learn how to mix colors and create patterns and textures (*Clays, glazes and paints used are non-toxic). Students will also use additional materials including yarn, pipe cleaners, sequins and buttons. The group will share stories with their clay friends about their projects. Their creations will put a big smile on their face!

Working with clay is a lot of fun... but also very beneficial to children! *They learn: dexterity (using their hands/fingers as tools), visual awareness (hand/eye coordination), how to explore their curiosity, shapes and how they relate to each other, math skills and measuring, how to work with others and take pride in accomplishment! Creating with clay has a calm, soothing effect and is a nice way to end the school day! *
