Description
Wherever you look, there’s street art and graffiti -- on buildings, walls, bridges, hydrants, sidewalks, clothing, footwear… Street art is the latest rage and street artists have become visual influencers.
Now it’s your turn to become a street artist! Students will learn about murals, graffiti styles, 3D effects, methods and techniques used by street artists near and far: Banksy, Okudart, Kenny Scharf, Invader, Casey Kawaguchi, and others. Witness street art from the Bushwick Collective of Brooklyn to Wynwood Walls in Miami and RiNo in Denver, to the Saint-Laurent Boulevard in Montreal and other international locations. The instructor will share locations to best see street art locally and in New York City.
Students will create their own street art pieces on MDF boards and cardboard using stencils they design, spray paints* (outdoors; protective gear), acrylic/neon/metallic paints, paint pens, sharpies, and will have the opportunity to add upcycling to pieces. They will also come up with their own street art name and create a “tag” of how they want their street art to be recognized.
Instructor Michelle Beyman has taught street art and street art camp for years. She has been with Wilton Schools and WCE for 20 years teaching ceramics, painting, drawing, mixed-media and street art from her ArtCart. She shares her national and international street art, museum, exhibit visits and artist lectures experiences with her students to inspire them.
No class Tuesday, 4/22.
