Description

Students will create and celebrate colorful winter fun, birthdays, Valentine’s Day, vacations, new friends and furry friends, snowboarders flying down slopes, special Valentine’s gifts filled with hearts and love, shivering monsters, hot cocoa cups, cupcakes, and more! ClayPlayers design a new project each week and enjoy making a creation of their choice for the final class project.
Students experiment with different clay forms—such as pinch pots, coils, slabs, and tiles—as well as design and patterning techniques. They work with red and white clays, rainbow-colored and crystal glazes, and a variety of decorative materials including feathers, beads, ribbon, wire, and pipe cleaners. Students learn how to mix glazes to create new colors and observe how crystal, crackle, and textured glazes transform the appearance of each piece after firing in a hot kiln. All clays and glazes used are non-toxic, and firings are completed off-site in a kiln.
ClayPlayers create in a fun, nurturing environment. Working with clay is not only enjoyable but also highly beneficial for children. It promotes dexterity (using hands and fingers as tools), visual awareness (hand-eye coordination), curiosity, spatial understanding, math and measuring skills, collaboration, and pride in accomplishment. Creating with clay also has a calming, soothing effect—making it a wonderful way to end the school day.
