Ophelia Handberry is an Award winning Concert Pianist, Composer, Vocalist and Educator.Ophelia was playing chords up and down the piano at 3, gave her first recital at 5, composed a fully orchestrated piece at 7 and at 14, she started teaching piano and opened her own business, Piano by Ophelia. She has been teaching piano for over 30 years.
Ophelia was trained classically and loves a variety of music. She created her own Contemporary Eclectic Sounds which include Jazz, Latin, New Age, Classical, Jigs and more... Ophelia has composed, recorded and produced five albums to her name. Her main instruments are the piano and voice however Ophelia plays many instruments. She has toured extensively throughout the country as well as internationally. Her music has been featured on NPR and PBS and has been heard on radio stations worldwide.Ophelia is highly organized and professional. She maintains a good life balance as she performs nationally on select weekends while successfully teaching her students during the weekdays.Ophelia, known as “Ms. Ophelia” to her students, clearly has a joy of teaching and sharing music with others. She seeks to bring out the best in every student by individualizing each students lesson plan and keeping classes engaging and uplifting so students progress in a positive environment.In addition to coming from a highly musical family, Ophelia’s training with Classical Concert Pianist- Rosemary McLaughlin, traces back to Mozart.Ophelia is an experienced and certified Suzuki instructor teaching students of all ages and all levels. In addition to teaching traditional methods, Ophelia created a Suzuki-Traditional blend which has been highly successful for the general understanding of music. Ophelia has also written an activity book for early learning/preschool students and their parents to help young students develop their musical skills.Ophelia has mentored students who want a career in music. She has successfully guided students and helped them prepare for college music auditions or musical performances when such opportunities arise.Ophelia has conducted master classes throughout her career. Some workshops have featured the unique topic of art and music as well as special composition, rhythm and performance workshops.Now, solely based in the Northeast, Ophelia looks forward to working with students at the Wilton Conservatory of Music!
