Description

Calling all book lovers! The Before-School Nutmeg Book Club will provide students in 4th and 5th grade with an engaging opportunity to discuss books in a fun, social setting before the school day begins. The club will encourage a lifelong love of reading, foster critical thinking, and strengthen communication skills through guided discussion and shared inquiry.

Led by Mrs. Ryan, one of Cider Mill’s Library Media Specialists, this club invites students to explore the 2026 Nutmeg Nominated Books, share their ideas, and discover the joy of reading together. Each session features thought-provoking discussions, engaging activities, and a welcoming community of readers who bring stories to life through conversation and reflection.

Mrs. Ryan will share a discussion schedule for the Nutmeg Books so everyone knows when each book should be finished at home—giving students plenty of time to read, reflect, and get ready to share their thoughts with fellow book lovers when we meet each week!

The group will:

  • Read, compare, and evaluate all 2026 Intermediate Nutmeg Nominations

  • Participate in the statewide Nutmeg voting process

  • Promote reading for enjoyment and personal growth

  • Build confidence in discussing ideas and expressing opinions

  • Explore diverse authors, genres, and perspectives

  • Develop comprehension and inferencing skills through group dialogue and critical thinking

  • Create a positive, connected reading community within Cider Mill School

Help your child discover a life-long love of reading and community, and sign up today!

No class Thursday, 2/19.
