Description

Learn to become a leader under the direction of Mr. Giaimo, a Wilton district teacher and instructional leader, and a leader in the Wilton community. The camp is seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and dedicated students to join The Leadership Program. This opportunity provides students with hands-on experience and valuable training in youth mentorship, sports coaching, and team leadership. Participants will have the chance to make a difference in the lives of young campers, entering grades PreK – 6, while developing their leadership and communication skills.

Skills Gained:

  • Leadership & Team Building: learn to lead and motivate groups, guide campers through activities, and create a positive team environment. Develop skills to manage group dynamics and conflicts.
  • Youth Mentorship & Coaching: guide campers to build confidence by providing consistent encouragement and highlighting their individual abilities. Coach various sports and adapt activities to specific age groups.
  • Effective Communication: learn to give clear instructions, explain things simply and in ways younger campers can understand. Practice listening carefully and providing feedback in a kind, encouraging way.
  • Problem-Solving & Conflict Resolution: develop problem-solving skills by learning to handle challenges, resolve conflicts, and make decisions. Practice staying calm and finding solutions to problems. This could mean resolving arguments between campers, helping someone who feels left out, or figuring out how to make an activity more fun and engaging for everyone.
  • Organization & Time Management: learn to manage time, balance multiple responsibilities, and stay organized throughout the busy camp day.
  • Empathy & Emotional Intelligence: understand younger camper needs and emotions, and how to respond. Learn to recognize when someone is upset, shy, or needs help, and offer support in a caring and thoughtful way.

Mr. Giaimo will teach students:

  • Camper Safety & Supervision: ensure the safety and well-being of campers by maintaining vigilant supervision. Enforce camp rules and create a supportive, secure environment where campers feel safe and valued.
  • Sports & Recreational Activities: assist campers in a variety of sports and recreational activities such as baseball, soccer, basketball, football, golf, and playground games. Adapt activities, for example breaking larger groups into smaller groups, to meet the age and skill levels of campers to keep them engaged and having fun.
  • Positive Relationship Building: learn to manage groups of campers, foster teamwork, encourage good sportsmanship, and promote positive relationships.
  • Role Model: serve as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating leadership, strong character, and a passion for sports. Help campers build confidence, try new activities, and develop new skills.
  • Clear Communication: develop and practice providing clear instructions and maintain open communication to ensure smooth camp operations.
  • Teamwork: collaborate with other counselors and camp staff to support daily camp operations, including activity planning, lunch and snack supervision, and maintaining a happy and organized environment.

By joining The Leadership Program, Jr. Counselors will have an incredible opportunity to train under Mr. Giaimo, and make a positive impact on the lives of young campers!
